MyMiniFactory and 3MF to Collaborate on 3D Printing

WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – Oct. 17, 2017 – MyMiniFactory, the open 3D printable object-sharing platform, announced today their official support for the 3MF file format.

MyMiniFactory is the host to tens of thousands of 3D printable designs, created by thousands of designers from around the globe, all of which can be downloaded and consumed for free. MyMiniFactory’s values center around Quality and Openness: Quality with software and processes to insure that 3D printer owners have a great experience, and Openness as anyone can create a 3D printable object.  MyMiniFactory made the decision to support the 3MF file format on its site because of the file format’s advanced functionality and ease-of-use. Download 3MF specifications for free.

“Alongside other major 3D players like Autodesk, Dassault Systemes and Microsoft, MyMiniFactory is thrilled to now support this file format, and looks forward to seeing more and more creators upload and share 3MF content,” said Romain Kidd, CEO, MyMiniFactory. “The 3MF file format provides an advanced 3D printing file format allowing for textures, colors, and internal structures to be printed easily and for free. MyMiniFactory being an Open and Independent platform, it is important for us to support this file format.”

The 3MF Consortium was formed to close the gap between the capabilities of modern 3D printers and outdated file formats. The industry-lead consortium’s 3MF specification eliminates the problems associated with currently available file formats, resolving interoperability and functionality issues, enabling users to focus more on innovation. The first version and extensions of the 3MF specification are available now for download at no charge.

MyMiniFactory and 3MF Collaborate on 3D Printing

Through the values of MyMiniFactory, along with the efforts of the 3MF Consortium, they have come together to empower creators to share digital objects with 3D printer owners around the world using the 3MF file format. By supporting 3MF, MyMiniFactory is now enables better integration with a variety of 3D printing products and software, including the Microsoft ecosystem. 3MF is a new 3D printing format that allows design applications to send full-fidelity 3D models to a mix of other applications, services and printer 3D printers.

3MF is engineered to avoid the problems often associated with other 3D file formats. MyMiniFactory is aware that in order to grow the 3D design and print communities, as well as the consumer 3D printing industry as a whole, one file format needs to remain adaptable and support new and relevant designs, workflows, and technologies as they emerge. Designers can now share their 3MF files to MyMiniFactory in addition to the currently supported file formats, and users will be able to download and 3D print 3MF files for free.
